Playing Well With Others

(Full title: Playing Well With Others: Increasing Compatibility Between Commons Licences)

Abstract

One of the criticisms most frequently made of the open access movement is the growing number of divergent licence models. While it can be argued that the flexibility this provides for creators is necessary for the continued growth of the commons, compatibility between these many licences remains a major barrier for those wanting to remix material from multiple sources. Important steps have recently been taken towards compatibility between the GPL and Creative Commons licensing models - what will be the affect of these changes?
