Case Study Project

Asia and the Commons Case Study Project

Does your organisation employ open content licensing? Which stories show the successes and opportunities for Asia and the commons?

For ACIA and the iSummit '08, CCau has volunteered to collate a booklet of case studies of people and projects engaged in the commons in Asia. This booklet will provide a record of current OCL activities and exemplars for those wishing to participate further in the commons, and to foster a community of like-minded organisations.

We're interested in profiling any group or individual engaging in the commons in a particularly interesting, innovative or successful way. The focus should be on practical implementation rather than theoretical discourse or lobbying.

We're also going to list commons organisations operating in the Asia region. These won't be as long as the case studies – but they will provide a way to highlight a much broader range of organisations working in Asia, and should make a useful reference list. This information can also be re-used for a mapping project.

Contributions should be short and provide illustrative material of successful OCL implementation. We've provided a template (please click on 'files' link) to make it easier to contribute, plus a couple of current examples from the Australian context. Here are some brief guidelines:

  • We'd like to begin as many case studies as possible with a quote about the project or its place in the commons – so if you're able to find one, either from the website or from interviewing the project team themselves, put it in;
  • Any statistics about the project would also be useful – as to number of participating artists, licence distribution etc. – basically anything that is available;
  • To make the whole thing more appealing, pictures and logos are great too – so feel free to attach files/links to your document (though make sure you have permission to reproduce them);
  • If you can't find any of the requested information, that's fine – just leave the box empty;
  • Don't worry if they're not completely polished - we'll need to edit them for language, style and format anyway. The important thing is to get the information to us. We'll clear any major changes with the authors before we publish the final version.

If people can write up one or two cases from their country and send them to us by the end of the year (ie 31 December 2007), we can make this happen. Remember - it's up to you to get your country featured – if we don't get any case studies, we can't put any in.

For submissions and enquiries, please contact the CCau case studies research officer, Rachel Cobcroft, on rachel[at]creativecommons[dot]org[dot]au.
